Planning Specialties
I’m committed to providing a comprehensive planning experience for the individuals and families that I work with. Planning is tailored to each individual as every person has a unique background, outlook on life, and different needs and desires. Planning encompasses a review of current investment portfolio / net worth, cash flow and budgeting, goals, employee benefits, risk management, current and anticipated tax situation, and a review of current estate plans. Using data from this review, financial advice is provided on identified areas of improvement and to address specific concerns of the families/individuals that we work with.
We work with clients in all walks of life but specialize in advising those who have reached financial independence (otherwise known as retirement) or those getting close to or contemplating retirement. Retirement is a significant life event that involves much more than the financial aspects and we particularly enjoy helping through the transition. On the financial side, asset allocation and distribution planning are particularly important in retirement and we stand by your side to help ensure you stay on track and maintain your wealth through retirement and in consideration of your legacy wishes.
Many of the families/individuals that we work with are/were engineers and federal employees, and we are very familiar with the financial aspects of these workers. We also specialize in the unique aspects related to unmarried couples, and I particularly appreciate discussions with fellow adventure seekers who like to get out and enjoy new experiences.
Additional Information
After a successful engineering career and successful implementation of a self-performed investment plan, I embraced the Financial Independence, Retire Early (FIRE) movement. “Retirement” or transitioning out of the career you have built over decades is a significant life event, particularly when it occurs prior to normal retirement age. Therefore, I sought guidance to ensure that my financial picture was in order and that I was on the best path toward achieving established goals and maintaining lifestyle. Like many others, I struggled to find advice that encompassed the comprehensive picture or advice that was not predicated upon the advisor earning commissions off products that they sold. The most common deficiency I ran into was that planning did not adequately consider the impact of taxes, which play a role in most every financial decision and have a significant impact on long-term wealth accumulation.
When I was unable to find the planner that I was looking for, I went back to college and took formal financial planning classes. Although I had done pretty well in managing my own assets, I learned several improvements and was able to find many advisors that fit with my philosophy and who provided valuable mentorship. Ultimately, I came to realize that I could use the knowledge gained to help others. I embarked upon a second career dedicated to providing fee-only comprehensive financial planning advice to like-minded people who are looking for a partner along the journey of achieving a prosperous and successful life.
When I’m not busy providing financial advice, I like to travel and experience new things. That might involve getting out into the great outdoors to do some hiking, fishing and hunting, or it might also include traveling the world to experience different cultures and meeting interesting people.
