Johnston Investment Counsel (JIC) is a 100% independent, employee-owned, research-driven, fee-only, wealth management firm that works with both individuals and institutions. Our mission is to provide exceptional investment management and financial planning services by well educated, continuously trained professionals that serve as fiduciaries and operate in an independent and conflict-free environment. While JIC prefers to develop retainer relationships, we will work on a per-project basis.
At the inception of any relationship, our first and most important priority is to listen and ask questions to gain further insight into each client’s objectives and specific situation. Based on this discussion, we will recommend the appropriate JIC service.
JIC specializes in working with high net worth individuals on the creation, management, and distribution of their wealth. Our approach is comprehensive in that we incorporate areas such as investment management, retirement, estate, insurance, educational, and tax planning, into our financial plans.
For clients solely interested in investment management (individuals and/or institutions), JIC offers several investment management strategies including a total portfolio style-rotation approach, index-only strategies, as well as incorporating individual stock and bond selection. Portfolios and their specific strategies are customized after discussing each client’s specific situation.
JIC works with institutions in developing and managing their qualified retirement plans (401k, cash balance, 403b, etc). JIC assists in plan design and development of a cost effective, open-architecture investment platform that takes advantage of JIC’s independent research.
Additional Information
Greg Johnston has been President & Chief Investment Officer of Johnston Investment Counsel since 1997. Prior to that Greg, worked at Stratford Advisory Group and Mercer Investment Consulting. He has over 20 years in the investment management and financial planning field.
He received his BA from the University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign, his MBA from DePaul Unviersity, and has and has earned the following professional designations: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certifed Financial Planner (CFP), Qualified Plan Financial Consultant (QPFC), and Accredited Investment Fidcuiary (AIF).
