Peggy Cabaniss
Peggy has worked for 30 years in the investment field as a financial planner and investment advisor. She earned the Certified Financial Planner designation in 1986. She is a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) and the Financial Planning Association (FPA). She holds a B.S. in math from the University of Arizona and a M.S. in information science from the University of California at Los Angeles. For six years, Mrs. Cabaniss was named as one of the top financial advisors in the country by Worth magazine.
Peggy co-founded HC Financial Advisors, Inc. in 1986 with her original partner James M. Hotchkiss, Jr., CPA. She is currently the majority shareholder and in 2014 transferred ownership of the firm to her partners Steve Biggs, Andy Byron, and Karla McAvoy. HC Financial Advisors, Inc. is a fee-only firm based in Lafayette, CA that provides ongoing investment management and financial planning services on an annual fee basis to approximately 220 clients and manages over $250M in assets. In addition, the firm has provided hourly financial planning services to several hundred clients over the years.
Mrs. Cabaniss served on NAPFA’s National Board from 2003 to 2006 and was Chair for the 2005/2006 term. She has served on various committees within NAPFA including the Ethics Committee and the Industry Issues Committee which addresses regulatory and legislative issues affecting the financial planning profession. She started the Women’s Initiative for NAPFA and continues to work with this committee. In 2013, Peggy was named as one of “NAPFA’s 30 Most Influential” in honor of the 30th anniversary of the organization. She is currently on the board of the National Consumer Education Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing independent objective financial advice to consumers. Most recently Peggy was awarded NAPFA’s 2016 Robert J. Underwood Distinguished Service Award at NAPFA 2016 National conference in Phoenix in May.
