Introduce the various types and combinations of sexual orientations and gender identities with terms and definitions. Panel discussion will touch on LGBTQ+ planning topics such as working with transgender clients, family planning options for same-sex couples and estate planning, planning considerations for non-traditional families, and insurance issues for HIV+ clients.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand gender identity and sexual orientation - provide examples so audience understands the difference and the various combinations of gender and orientation.
  2. Learn how to work with transgender clients – what not to ask, legal vs preferred name.
  3. Understand planning considerations for non-traditional families – specifically poly relationships with more than two (legal protections, how to title assets, buy a home, insurance).
  4. Gain insights on family planning – Know options for IVF, surrogacy, and adoption. Understand costs, financing options and estate planning issues.
  5. Learn more about HIV+ clients and insurance – life insurance limitations, alternatives to LTC insurance, health insurance choices.
