Donor advised funds (DAFs) keep growing in popularity, and with good reason: they can be an important catalyst for clients trying to make more meaningful impacts with their money. But this powerful tool can be made far more so when applied as part of a broader, long-term philanthropic strategy.

In this session, Heifer Foundation Vice President Debbie McCullough will discuss how financial planners and other professionals might approach clients and the potential philanthropists among them to create a giving strategy to ensure that their gifts ultimately have a meaningful impact in line with their stated values and desired legacies. Attendees will walk away understanding how to drive these important conversations, how to identify certain philanthropic personalities and build on what your clients care about most, and how DAFs can offer an alternate solution to private foundations to those clients wishing to pass on intergenerational values.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the function and utility of donor advised funds (DAFs) in not only advancing but also helping to elucidate an impactful philanthropic strategy for both current and legacy giving
  2. Learn the importance of crafting philanthropic strategies for their clients and how to overcome common hurdles in that journey, including correctly identifying clients’ needs, values, and motivations
  3. Obtain resources to begin guiding clients toward strategic philanthropy, including comparisons of key vehicles available for their gifts
