Challenges of Race in Our Profession

With more than 80% of CFP® certificants identifying as White, it is easy to avoid conversations about race in the profession. In this roundtable, participants will dive headfirst into the critical state of race relations in America as it pertains to the financial planning profession. Explore concrete strategies to gain cultural awareness and education, ideate ways to change behaviors, and make change in the industry.

Learning Objectives: 

1. Be an agent of change through empathy and understanding
2. Practice awareness: ask questions, be comfortable with the uncomfortable, and avoid willful blindness 
3. Practice humility: when there is a problem, seek ways to understand and understand entitlement 
4. Practice empathy: acknowledge discrimination, stand up for what is right, seek out information, and learn how challenges  of race makes others feel
5. Be a mentor: Give a hand up, not a handout
